The shooting took place in Hartford County at the Bristol Police Department on Thursday, Oct. 5.
During the incident, a lone woman, later identified as Suzanne Laprise, age 51, of Bristol, entered the lobby of the Bristol Police Department at 131 North Main St.
She approached the front lobby desk office windows and banged on the windows with a handgun, said the Inspector General's Office.
The front lobby desk was unoccupied at that time. After banging on the windows, Laprise fired multiple rounds into the windows. The rounds did not penetrate the bullet-resistant glass, officials said.
Officers attempted to open a dialogue with Laprise. During these efforts, Laprise discharged additional rounds in the direction of the officers. Officer Spencer Boisvert then returned fire, firing two shots, the Inspector General said.
The bullet-resistant glass stopped all rounds and no one was hit.
When Laprise set the handgun down, officers entered the lobby, deployed an electronic defense weapon, and took her into custody.
Laprise was taken to Bristol Hospital for evaluation. She was later released and returned to the Bristol Police Department.
The investigation is underway, along with help from the New Britain State’s Attorney’s Office, and the Bristol Police Department.
